On August 4, 2022, a Federal Judge in Chicago approved the largest ever settlement under the California Invasion of Privacy Act (“CIPA”). The latest settlement secures an additional $50 Million, which is in addition to a prior settlement of $28 Million reached with other defendants, bringing the total recovery in the lawsuit to $78 Million. The $78 Million settlement is the largest ever settlement under the CIPA and far exceeds the previous largest settlement of $18 Million.
The plaintiffs alleged that two independent sales organization, Ironwood Financial, LLC and International Payment Services, LLC (“IPS”) violated CIPA by recording appointment setting telephone calls to California businesses without their knowledge or consent.
