A Cook County Circuit Court Judge entered a final order approving a settlement obtained by Attorney Jacie Zolna on behalf of former Chicago Public School principals who lost their positions pursuant to Public Act 85-1418, which purported to eliminate tenure for principals. The Illinois Supreme Court, however, found that the Act was unconstitutional.  The First District Appellate Court of Illinois later found the Chicago Board of Education liable for the wrongful terminations.  The case settled shortly before it was set to go to trial on the issue of damages with the Board of Education agreeing to pay $2 Million to create a settlement fund.  The settlement provides a substantial benefit to class members, most of whom will receive payments sufficient to cover all or more of their lost salary to due to the terminations.
