Federal Judge grants injunction against IHSA reinstating a student athlete’s eligibility

Attorneys Zolna and Swetland brought a lawsuit on behalf of a hearing impaired student who was denied eligibility to wrestle by the Illinois High School Association (“IHSA”) after transferring to Montini Catholic High School prior to his senior year.

On January 11, 2024, Attorneys Zolna and Swetland obtained an injunction against the IHSA that reinstated his eligibility and allowed him to wrestle the remainder of his senior year. The student went on to place third in the individual State Tournament and helped his team reach the finals in the team State Tournament. The student went on to wrestle in college.

 The suit was covered by CBS Chicago and WGN News.
